A Lovely Day to Play

A Lovely Day to Play
Genre: Picture book
When Frog awakes on a particularly lovely day he soon decides it’s the perfect opportunity to go and play with his friends. He gets his bat. He gets his ball. Now all he needs are his good friends: Fox, Shrew, Beaver, Goat, and Snake. Unfortunately for Frog, none of them seem quite as keen to come out and play…
About the Book

“What a lovely day to play!”
Frog said out loud one sunny day.

“I’ve got my bat, I’ve got my ball.
I’ll go and give my friends a call.”

(FOX)
“Hello Fox, what a lovely day!
What say we go outside and play?”

“I’m sorry Frog, I can’t,” sighed Fox
“I woke this morning with the pox!

“Oh dear Fox, that is a shame,
I’ll see if Shrew would like a game.”

(SHREW)
“Hello Shrew, what a lovely day!
What say we go outside and play?”

“I’m sorry Frog, I can’t,” sniffed Shrew
“I’m full up with this frightful flu!”

“Oh dear Shrew, that is a shame,
I’ll see if Beaver wants a game.”

(BEAVER)
“Hello Beaver, what a lovely day!
What say we go outside and play?”

“I’m sorry Frog, I can’t,” moaned Beaver
I’m laid up with this horrid fever.”

“Oh dear Beaver, that is a shame,
I’ll see if Goat would like a game.”

(GOAT)
“Hello Goat, what a lovely day!
What say we go outside and play?”

“I’m sorry Frog, I can’t,” croaked Goat,
“I’m too ill with this poorly throat.”

Oh dear Goat, that is a shame,
I’ll see if Snake would like a game.”

(SNAKE)
“Hello Snake, what a lovely day,
What say we go outside and play?”

“I’m sorry Frog, I can’t,” groaned Snake,
“I’ve got a painful tummy ache!”

“Oh dear, Snake. That is a shame.
There’s no-one left to play a game!

I guess I’ll go back home instead,
If all my friends are sick in bed!”

Three days later, maybe four,
There was a knock on Frog’s front door.

Stood there at the door was Fox,
No longer spotty with the pox.

And next to him not full of flu,
Was a very healthy looking Shrew.

And next to him outside was Beaver,
Far from laid up with a fever.

And just behind him, there stood Goat,
No longer croaky with his throat.

And at the back there slithered Snake,
With no more painful tummy ache.

“Hello Frog, what a lovely day!
What say we go outside and play?

We’ve got a bat, we’ve got a ball
We thought we’d give our friend a call.”

“Well it really is a lovely day.
And I’d love to come outside and play…
…but I’ve got the pox, I think from Fox!
I’m full of flu, the same as Shrew!
I’ve got a fever, just like Beaver!
A croaky throat, just like Goat!
And a tummy ache, just like Snake!
So I’m sorry, but I can’t,” Frog said.
I’m going back to bed instead!”
